Both AWD and 4WD send power to all four wheels, improving traction in slippery conditions. The main difference: **4WD** is usually driver-selectable and built for serious off-road work; **AWD** is automatic and designed for everyday driving on wet or snowy roads.

**4WD (four-wheel drive):**
Often found on trucks and rugged SUVs, 4WD has high and low ranges you engage manually. Low range multiplies engine torque for extreme terrain (deep snow, mud, rocks). It's more capable off-road but reduces fuel economy and isn't ideal for highway driving.

**AWD (all-wheel drive):**
Standard on many Cadillac SUVs and sedans, AWD automatically sends extra power to wheels that need it. It's always on-no switch needed-and works seamlessly whether you're accelerating in rain or climbing a snowy hill. You get better traction with less fuss and minimal fuel-economy penalty.

**Which do you need?**
Snowy winters and frequent rough terrain? Consider 4WD. City commuting or occasional bad weather? AWD is simpler and more practical.
